Day 12 – 21 Days Through Acts

By Kevin Lambing

Scripture Reading: Acts 15:26 – 17

Topic: God Is Greater Than All

Focus Scripture: Acts 17:16-28 (Emphasis on 17:26)

Many of you have heard me pray on Sunday mornings about the appointed time and place God has for you. Some of you have heard me explain this in our Discovery 2 class where we look at your DISC personality profile and your spiritual gifts. You may be asking, “Why is he always brining that up?” Let’s go to the scripture reading for today and pick up the story of Paul in Athens.

Paul was waiting on Timothy and Silas to arrive in Athens to meet him. As Paul was walking around the city, scripture tells us he was “distressed” at all the “idols to gods” he saw. It’s funny, one of the idols they were worshiping was named “The Unknown God.” So Paul starts telling the Athenians about their “Unknown God.” In the middle of this discourse, Paul states the following:

“And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.”

I want you to concentrate on verse 26 at this point. For over 30 years the Lambing family lived all over the globe, going from town-to-town and country-to-country. GOD DETERMINED THAT! Sure, the Air Force gave us orders, but God was there at every location using us for his Kingdom, in His way, at that very moment. Many of you have lived in different locations in your life. Today, God has you at City Church in Lufkin TX. Ask yourself this question, “Why does God have me here, in this place, in this time in history?

When I ask people to take the spiritual gifts survey, at times people will tell me they know what their gift(s) are. It’s at this moment where I caution them not to put God in a box! Don’t limit what he has for you “AT THIS TIME” in your life. Oh sure, he used you in this way and that way at the last 3 churches, but today, he may drop a spiritual gift on you like a Christmas package delivered on Christmas day!!

Paul was convincing to many on that day in Athens. For others, they needed more time. How about you in your life? Who are you telling that “God is greater than all.” This Unknown God they are seeking is very near. He has placed them where he can be reached. Find God today, right where you are. And when you do, tell the world around you how Great he is and how they can know him too.

Father, thank you your plan. Thank you for allowing me to be used for many years in many capacities to many people. I pray Father that I never stop seeking you, finding you, and looking for where you have determined my boundaries to be. Please use me here today, in this place, to reach our community.
In Jesus Name
